Tips on coping with COVID absenteeism

Finding cover for staff that are isolating or absent with COVID is something almost every business in Australia is dealing with right now.

It certainly helps if you have kept a list of past candidates or qualified people that you could call on to help out. Even better if you have nurtured a relationship with them.

Of course most businesses are too busy getting on with business to do that. Which is where a labour hire agency can really help you out.

Any agency worth its salt will have a strong database of candidates ready, who potentially have the right expertise and experience to cover for your absent workers at short notice.

As COVID isn’t going away any time soon, you might even think about putting an arrangement in place where you train up temps you can call on when you’re short. You could do that yourself of course, or with an agency.

If you haven’t already, you are also going to need systems in place to know when staff are ill, when they are isolating, and when their isolation periods end so you can roster effectively.

In some workplaces there will also be vaccine and booster mandates that you will need to apply.
